FORT SCOTT — Going 2-2 on the day, Iola High’s junior varsity volleyball team claimed third place in the Fort Scott High JV Invitational Saturday.
The Fillies finished first in their pool, beating Parsons 25-21, 25-14 and Coffeyville 25-13, 25-14.
Iola lost to Labette County 26-24, 25-17 then dropped a 25-14, 25-19 decision to Chanute.
“We had the most intensity on the day against Labette and got down early against Chanute. We had too many unforced errors in the last two maches,” said Casey Greenwood, IHS assistant coach.
Against Parsons’ Breanna Stout served up four aces while Alyssa Zimmerman had two ace serves and Mackenzie Weseloh and Katie Thompson each served one ace. Iola continues to serve the volleyball well.
At the net, Chanel Coyne put down five kills and Thompson had one kill. Weseloh was credited with six set assists.
In the Coffeyville match, Weseloh served up five aces followed by Coyne with three, Zimmerman with two, Stout with one ace and Thompson with one ace. The Fillies only missed two service attempts in the match.
Weseloh had nine set assists as Coyne and Thompson each delivered five kills. Zimmerman had three kills and Hannah Endicott had two kills. Stout put down one kill.
Coyne made a solo block and had two kills against Labette County. Endicott had two kills and one service ace. Stout had two ace serves and one kill and Thompson had one kill and one ace as did Zimmerman. Weseloh had three set assists and one ace serve.
Against Chanute, Coyne had three kills, Thompson had two kills and Zimmerman had one kill. Thompson served two aces and Zimmerman had one ace. Weseloh put up three set assists.
The Iola junior varsity joins the varsity in matches with Fredonia at Yates Center tonight.
